Lizzie's perfect bowl of porridge, paired with her latest cookbook, Home Food.

With echoes of old-fashioned custard, these oats are creamy, rich, and made for slow winter mornings. Aussie-grown oats bring nuttiness, egg adds custardy richness, while apple, nutmeg, vanilla and orange lend a taste of nostalgia.

Home Food is the cookbook for real life: flexible, comforting recipes that don't chase trends or complicated techniques. Less pressure, more ease — from midweek chicken stew to one-pot wonders to pasta followed by pudding.

What's included:

  • Farmer Jo x Elizabeth Hewson Custard Oats — Aussie-grown oats, egg for custardy richness, apple, nutmeg, vanilla and orange.
  • Home Food by Elizabeth Hewson — The cookbook for imperfect cooks living real, delicious lives.

Recipes

How to Cook (Quick Method)
Cook these oats using a 1:2 ratio of oats to liquid.

We love using water as the base to let the toasted oats shine, then adding milk to your liking for extra creaminess. Whether you stir the milk through during the final few minutes of cooking or after taking the oats off the heat, there's no right or wrong way. Make it your own.

Lizzie’s Method
Serves 2-3

Place 1 cup of oats and 2 cups of water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to the boil, then immediately reduce the heat to low.

Simmer for 6-8 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened and very creamy. Stirring helps release the starch and makes the oats extra creamy.

From here, it's really about how loose you like your oats. Add ¼-½ cup of milk of your choice and stir for another 2 minutes, or until you're happy with the consistency.

Remove from the heat, cover with a lid and let the porridge rest for 3-5 minutes.

Serve with your favourite toppings. Elizabeth loves brown sugar, a dollop of marmalade and a drizzle of cream.
